People Positive

People Positive – a Facilities Directorate initiative

What is People Positive?

The People Positive initiative is part of the Facilities Directorate’s commitment to developing an inclusive culture. This means that when everyone in the FD comes to work they feel they belong, can be themselves, and feel happy and safe.

The first part of the initiative is the Professional Behaviours workshops which are running throughout 2024 and will be featuring in ongoing training in the future. The workshop outlines how we can all contribute towards creating a more inclusive culture in the FD.

Creating a comfortable working environment is a joint effort, not just a management or HR responsibility, and asking everyone to speak up about unacceptable behaviour is a part of this.

Background

People Positive ties in directly to the first aim in our business plan – Our Way Ahead – to develop our culture so that people can thrive and succeed.

This is supported by the ‘Our People, Our Culture’ programme. You can read about our progress in the University’s employee engagement hub.

Both People Positive and Our People, Our Culture are informed by responses from FD staff to the University’s Staff Engagement Survey which ran in 2023 and will run again in 2025.

What’s next?

Taking forward learning from the pilot training, future focuses being considered by the People Positive team include:

  • additional training for leaders and managers.
  • behaviours training as part of induction.
  • leadership development for new leaders/managers.
  • delivery of Management Essential modules tailored to the FD.
  • engagement with University-wide initiatives on professional behaviours.
